Child Therapy in Ohio

Counseling for younger children, with parents involved. In person at six locations across southern Ohio. No referral needed to start.

What child therapy is, and who it's for

Children rarely say "I am anxious." It comes out as stomachaches, meltdowns, trouble at school, clinginess, sleep that has fallen apart, or a child who used to be one way and is now another. Child therapy gives that somewhere to go.

Sessions look different from adult counseling — more play, drawing, and activity, less sitting and talking. Parents are part of it, because most of what helps happens at home between appointments.

What to expect

  • A short screening form or phone call from a parent or guardian.
  • A callback from a real person, usually within one business day.
  • A first appointment that includes you, so we hear the history from you as well.
  • Sessions built around your child's age — play and activity, not an interview.
  • Regular check-ins with you about what to try at home.

If something has changed, that's reason enough to call.

Before you call

How young is too young?
Call and ask. We will tell you honestly whether counseling is the right fit or whether something else would help more.
Do I stay in the room?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no, depending on your child's age and what you are working on. Your counselor will talk it through with you.
Does my child need a diagnosis?
No. You do not need a diagnosis or a referral to start.
What if the school has asked us to get help?
Bring whatever the school sent. It is useful, and it does not change how we start.
Does Medicaid cover it?
Yes, we accept Medicaid. Have your child's card handy when you call and we will check coverage first.

Ready when you are.

Fill out the screening form or call. No referral needed, and you do not have to have the words for it yet.
